MoMA visit

The piece that stuck out most to me was Sharkrunners. It is a computer game based on sharks with GPS devices attached to their fin. Satelites are then able to detect their locations and movements. Players create a boat that goes out to sea, and see if they can find where the sharks are. They receive e-mails and texts when a shark gets closer or another ship is around.

It caught my attention because I love the idea of nature versus technology. It was a good mix of the two; there is the advanced technology of the game itself, and then there is the use of real sharks swimming in our oceans. There are a few articles on the MoMA website that discuss the advance of technology in the world today. It is amazing what we can do with technology. One article in particular that related to this game was about a game called Mars Escape. It is a computer game that is designed to create robots that are based on human communication and interactions. Players than interact with one another on the internet. Sharkrunners in similar, but sounds even more exciting because of the rush a player gets when interacting with a real shark. I grew up in New Jersey and was always hearing shark stories and seeing sharks that big fishing boats would bring in. I could see many people I know that also grew up in New Jersey, being interested in a game like this. So many computer games are just two people playing against each other, but using real sharks made it interesting.

A problem with a game like this, is finding ways to tell people about it. Shark Week is a popular show on Discovery channel and that would be a perfect way to communicate to people who may want to play.

Another piece that was similar to this was Becoming Animal. It went along with my interest of mixing nature and technology. People were to put on these animal masks and use their facial expressions and actions to become the animal.
