Expanding my base design problem list.

-If I could change one thing about my life it would be…I wish i did more things for myself. Helping others is a great thing to do, and it is such a good feeling when you know you helped someone, but sometimes people need to do things for themselves. It is not selfish, we are only human and need time to do things we love. This needs to be time where you don’t do your school work, it is a time where you do things you love. For example I would go to a park with my sketchbook or camera and ipod and just enjoy the time by myself.

Another thing I would change about my life is to explore more. Find areas of new york I’m not familiar with, or drive around to near by towns at home. This could be a way to find new inspirations. It is a way to be spontaneous and you never know what you will find.

-I can’t help but be obsessed with the idea ….of nature, eco-friendly, organic, etc. I love the idea of all of this and helping our planet. I want to learn more about it and as a challenge try to apply it to design work and/or every day life. For some reason I find myself being more aware of recycling and reusing.

-I wish there was more… of a surf culture in new york. I know it doesn’t make sense to try to have a beach culture in this city, but I find myself always meeting people from California and I think it would be interesting. I grew up spending my summers at our house in Cape May nj and there was such a big surf culture there. I was always surrounded by people that surfed, or clothing stores with surf brands, etc. One time I was walking around Soho and came across this interesting little boutique that had a line of t-shirts, and other garments with surf inspired designs. There were vintage boards and pictures of surfing. It just always stuck with me because it stood out so much.

-I can’t help but be obsessed with the idea of…commuting. This year I decided to move home to save money and focus more on my last year of school. At first I thought I would dread getting on the train and getting all the way to school. I actually really love it though. The city is amazing and there is always something going on, something to see, galleries, museums and so on. My favorite part of living at home is that I can go on a train and be in the city in one hour and have all of that, and then I can come home and be surrounded my nature and trees and land. I enjoy the mix of the fast paced city to the slower quieter country life.

-What in the world needs attention/communication/help?…

People need to know about nutrition (healthy eating, what foods are good for you and why), and how to be able to relieve stress (yoga, meditation, etc). This could be communicated through books with info design pieces, or a cook book with healthy eating.

New York is such an amazing place, it is a destination where someone can see all different types of museums, restaurants, parks, shopping and more. When tourists come they tend to only go to certain places. There are tons of “hidden gems” that don’t get recognized.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. I think it is great that this is getting across to more people. I love the idea of it and want to learn more about it. What could be different ways to communicate to people the benefits of this?

Going along with reduce, reuse, recycle, the idea of making sure our environment is clean.

I think technology is amazing, and it is crazy to think about all of the things we are able to access and use through our advance in technology. As much as I think it helps people, we should also be able to step away from it. We get so used to having our phones and computers and ipads with us and we feel weird without them. What are ways to show people that it is good to take a break from technology?
