Sean Catlin Cauley
Midterm Crit response

During the past few weeks while we have been working on our thesis, I was sort of lost. I let ideas come to me as I did one project at a time. I am really happy that I ended up with doing patterns with nature as my inspiration. I really enjoy doing it, and it is also a challenge. I was happy when I presented and people reacted well to what I was doing so far. I am curious to see what will come next and how things will change over time. I think as I keep working, I will pick up on new techniques, realize new things, and learn from testing these prints out and seeing how people react. I was thinking about new ways to make patterns from nature and thought about maybe only doing some prints with geometric shapes, and others will only organic shapes, etc. Jess was also mentioning maybe playing around with the contrast of nature vs. an urban environment which would be interesting too. Another comment that stood out to me was from Simoni after class. She was mentioning that in India, people put certain plants in their house because of Indian culture. I could look into making patterns based on traditions, cultures, or personal preferences. I am excited to keep working and playing around with different ideas.

I agree with the guest critics to just keep working and see how I improve, and what changes come as I practice and work.

Looking up feng shui, japanese prints, symmetry as a language, and talking to other professors at school will help me develop more.
